Construction Update

UPDATED FEBRUARY 21, 2012

The following offers a glimpse at construction activities planned for the month of February. Please remember that the commencement or completion of these activities is dependent upon weather and the discovery of any 'surprises' in the infrastructure. Thanks for your continued patience and support as we finish the trail.

CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES:

There should not be any Cultural Trail construction activities on Washington Street in February.

SOUTHEAST CORRIDOR

From Washington St. and Pennsylvania St. to Shelby and Prospect streets on Virginia Ave. See map.

CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES:

The pedestrian lighting and paver work under the Bankers Life Fieldhouse garage on Virginia Avenue has the southbound curb lane restricted. This restriction will be in place for approximately 3 more weeks. The new traffic restrictions on Virginia Avenue from South Street to the I-65 bridge are now in place. Traffic has been moved to the east side of Virginia Avenue with one lane in each direction. On-street parking in this section of Virginia Avenue will be removed during the construction of the Trail. Saw cutting and removal of the pavement, sidewalk, and curbs as well as placing drainage structures and pipe have begun. Traffic control on East Street, either side of South Street, will be restricted to one lane in each direction with a southbound turn lane for placement of a storm structure and pipe continuing through next week.

A public meeting will be held on Monday, February 27, 2012 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm to describe the construction activities and schedule.

TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS:

Per the above, traffic restrictions will be re-introduced on Virginia Avenue immediately following the wrap up of Super Bowl activities.

Anticipated completion dates: Hardscape of areas between Washington and East Streets, and between the Interstate and Prospect Street was complete in December 2011. Hardscape of the area between East Street and the Interstate and all landscaping should be complete by Fall 2012.
