Construction of the Indianapolis Cultural Trail will be done in seven corridor stages over five years, beginning in 2007. The corridor schedule is subject to change.
What's Done So Far:
East Corridor Alabama Street — Began April 2007. Completed June 2008.
Northeast Corridor
North Street, New Jersey Street, Walnut Street, College Avenue and
Massachusetts Avenue to 10th Street (connecting to the Monon Trail). Began April 2009. Completed November 2010.
North Corridor
St. Clair Street, part of The Canal (between St. Clair and Walnut streets), Walnut Street, Meridian Street, American Legion Mall and North Street. Began July 2009. Completed June 2010.
In 2011
Capitol & Alabama Corridor Capitol Avenue from Washington Street to South Street + Alabama St. from Market St. to Washington St. was completed.
Southeast Corridor Virginia Avenue with a short jog onto New Jersey and South streets was substantially completed.
West Corridor Indiana Avenue, Blackford Street, and Washington Street to West Streetwas substantially completed.
Central Corridor Washington Street from Alabama Street to Illinois Street was substantially completed.
Remaining Construction:
2012
Southeast Corridor Completion of the corridor with emphasis on the area from South Street to the Interstate bridge. Landscaping will be installed throughout.
West Corridor To be completed including the installation of landscaping.
Central Corridor Completion of the corridor with emphasis on the area from Capitol Avenue to West Street. Landscaping will be installed throughout.
The entire eight-miles is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2012.
